Mahi Mahi (Dolphin Fish): Although we are past the peak of the mahi mahi fishing season in Pompano Beach, there are still plenty of dolphin around to keep rods bent for anglers willing to put in the time looking for them. The most surefire way to locate dolphin right now is to head at least 10 miles offshore looking for floatsam or debris. Of course, the weather has to be perfect for this to happen, but that is often the case this time of year. August is typically the time when we start to see an increase in tropical weather activity, but these storms are usually far and few between. There has been lots of live bait along the beaches and inside the inlets to provide cast netting opportunities before every offshore fishing trip, and these baits can really help out when looking for dolphin offshore. On our charter boats, we like to live chum when we reach a weedline or a current rip that looks promising. Any dolphin in the area should zone in on the baits and come to the boat where we can hook them. We expect the Pompano Beach fishing report for mahi mahi to stay steady over the next month or so. Tight lines!
